What is a community kitchen?

-It is a hybrid of the well known soup kitchen

-It is a place where people who are struggling financially could come a receive a warm meal in a safe place.

- St. Basil’s Community Kitchen’s focus is on those who are struggling with loneliness and with feelings of isolation.  It’s a place where those who are struggling with fear and confusion can go for a meal and find peace, and quiet.

-Many families, both young families and older families find themselves all alone with out any sort of support group, or community.  They may have moved to follow work and left friends and family behind, and now are all alone.

-Many of our senior citizens are all alone.  They have one or two adult children, but their children do not live locally. Many of these senior citizens live in great fear and emotional turmoil due to loneliness.

-Loneliness is crippling.  It is debilitating.  St. Basil’s Community Kitchen’s primary focus will be to help those who are lonely and left all alone.

-It is not just our seniors who are alone.  There are many young people who are also alone.  They work remote, they sit at home watching the news – hearing all of the dreadful events in the world…war, and rumors of war.  And they have no hope.  We want to give them hope.  We want to let them know that they are loved and that there is a peace that passes all understanding.

-The Means of Accomplishing This Goal:

St. Basil’s will provide evening meals for people in the Community, geared to the lonely and socially isolated.

St. Basil’s will provide an encouraging message at every meal.

St. Basil’s will have several people – young and old- that are very friendly and interested in hearing the stories of our guests.

St. Basil’s will provide a quiet, holy area for our guests to pray in, or just to quietly sit and meditate on life and things that are true, peaceful and Holy.

St. Basil’s will have a food pantry that will be able to help meet the physical needs we all sometimes have.

St. Basil’s needs your help.  We are renovating the Basement of the building on 4th and Bond street in Monett MO, and though we are doing much of the work through our volunteers, much of the work we cannot do ourselves.  Professional electricians, Plumbers, and Carpenters all will need to be hired to help us to get this project up and running.  We also need to furnish the kitchen with commercial kitchen appliances and cook ware.  Besides this we need food and drinks donated.
